Employer: Dunsters Farm

Maxine Freed, People Manager at Dunsters Farm, shares why the company chose Money First Aider® training and how it helps employees feel supported with their finances. She explains how the training provides practical tools, encourages open conversations about money, reduces stigma, and offers an approachable point of contact for staff experiencing financial stress.

Dunsters Farm is a food wholesale & distribution company with 140 staff. They trained 10 of them to become Money First Aiders.

Why did Dunsters Farm choose Money First Aider® training?

“As an employer, we recognise that financial wellbeing is a key part of overall employee health. Money worries don’t just impact focus and productivity at work: they also have a huge effect on mental health. As a family business, we want our team to feel their best, both inside and outside of work.

Money First Aid appealed to us because it tackles money worries head on. It gives our team practical tools to support their financial wellbeing, while also helping to break down the barriers that often come with talking about money. With Money First Aid’s support, our staff can have open, compassionate conversations about finances.

Just as we’ve trained the team in physical and mental health to support emotional wellbeing, having Money First Aiders shows we’re taking financial stress seriously and doing something practical about it.”

What challenges were you hoping to address?

“In recent years, we’ve seen the financial pressures many people in our workforce and community are facing, from rising living costs and budgeting challenges to financial anxiety. We also know the knock-on effect of money worries can be significant, affecting mental health, job performance, and overall wellbeing.

With Money First Aiders, our aim was to:

  • Provide a safe, approachable point of contact for staff experiencing financial stress

  • Reduce the stigma around money conversations

  • Offer early, informal support before issues escalate

  • Signpost people to practical help and resources

In short, we wanted our team to feel less alone and know that support was there, should they need it.”

How was the training experience?

“We’ve found the training experience really encouraging and uplifting. The topics are delivered in bitesize sessions, making it easy for colleagues to fit learning around a busy work schedule. We’ve also been able to share practical tips, tools, and signposting with our wider team.

Our colleagues describe it as empowering. It’s opened up conversations about money, breaking down the stigma and making people feel more confident in tackling financial worries. Overall, it’s been well-received and for us, we’ve been able to give our team another layer of wellbeing support in one of the areas that matters most to everyday life.”
